"Child in the Clouds" project

The ‘Child in the Clouds’ Project, a joint initiative of British Airways and partners, has a heartwarming goal: to fulfill the dreams of 280 underprivileged children with special needs, providing them with the unique experience of flying.

This exciting journey, which had its first edition in 2011, took place aboard the Boeing 747-400 that operates British Airways’ daily flights from São Paulo to London. During the scenic flight over Rio de Janeiro, the children experienced moments of pure joy.

These children were selected from NGOs such as Casa Ronald ABC, Casa Hope, Fundação Cafu, Afinando o Futuro com Arte, and Lar do Caminho. Throughout the journey, volunteer artists entertained the youngsters, and the British Airways crew, known for their traditional blue uniforms, surprised the children with costumes and props.

The success of ‘Child in the Clouds’ is only possible thanks to the dedication of British Airways employees who volunteer, as well as the crucial support of partner companies who believed in and contributed to the project, providing resources such as fuel, airport fees, gifts for the children, and transportation.

Renata Caruso Lorenzo, Crew Manager for Latin America at British Airways, highlights: ‘By hosting this event, we not only provide a social activity for these children but also renew hope and the chance to achieve a dream. This day has already become a tradition for British Airways, but each year we are more surprised by the participants’ reactions.’

José Coimbra, Commercial Director of British Airways in Brazil, adds: ‘This project not only offers an unforgettable experience for the children but also reinforces our tradition of social responsibility. Every year, we are even more moved by the positive impact we have on the lives of these young dreamers.”
